MySpace has signed a deal with the pioneering provider of free-to-end-user Wi-Fi - The Cloud - so that you can access the social networking website on the go from thousands of UK locations. The Cloud will provide all new and existing MySpace users with free Wi-Fi access to MySpace.com wherever The Cloud's network is available. And this is, at the moment, in over 7000 UK locations. Anthony Lukom, Managing Director of MySpace UK commented: "MySpace users want to easily communicate with their friends and discover exciting, relevant content wherever they happen to be". [via PocketLint] MySpace and HP team-up Posted by MySpace2Max Saturday, 2008-November-22 MySpace and HP have announced plans to integrate HP printing technology across MySpace, including all photo sections.
This will mean MySpace users can print the photo sections, personal profiles, blog entries, comments and messages stored on their MySpace profiles and "share them offline in new and exciting ways". The first stage of the companies’ collaboration will be an HP-branded print button that enables MySpace users to preview and print photos directly from their MySpace profiles. [via PocketLint] MySpace offers access to BlackBerry users Posted by MySpace2Max Thursday, 2008-November-20 The customised MySpace interface, developed with Research in Motion, the company behind the new handsets, gives BlackBerry users the ability to receive updates and send messages in real time, as well as uploading photographs to their profile.
According to figures from the social network, the MySpace mobile site receives more than two million daily unique mobile visits. The announcement follows the success of the MySpace iPhone application, which, according to MySpace’s figures, received 1.7 million daily unique mobile visits in July. [via Mediaweek] Guns N' Roses have launched their new album on MySpace Posted by MySpace2Max Thursday, 2008-November-20 Chinese Democracy, the US rock band's first album in 15 years, will not be available to buy until Monday.
But fans can hear the album on the band's MySpace page. They are one of the highest-profile acts to use the site to launch a record. The band's last record, their covers collection The Spaghetti Incident?, came out in 1993. Since then, tension among members has led to all the original performers except frontman Axl Rose leaving. [via BBC NEWS] MySpace launches Profile 2.0 Posted by MySpace2Max Thursday, 2008-November-20 MySpace has announced the launch of Profile 2.0, that it says is the next step in the site's global redesign.
The revamps will let users customise the appearance of their profiles using a new drag-and-drop user interface. "Profile 2.0 is everything users have been asking for", said Tom Anderson, president and co-founder of MySpace. "You can now make your profile look different to different groups of friends. It gives users the privacy and customization they want." The key features included in Profile 2.0 are drag and drop modules to create new profile layouts, the option for users to display certain info on their profile to chosen groups of friends and 50 new profile styles and themes. Perhaps learning from rival Facebook's new look, that proved unpopular with some users, the Profile 2.0 is very much an opt-in option - with the choice to return to the old look at any point. [via Pocket Lint] MySpace wants to sell MP3 players Posted by MySpace2Max Wednesday, 2008-November-19 n discussing the new service, MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe yesterday said that an MP3 player carrying the MySpace Music brand may be feasible in the future, leading to speculation he could license his brand similarly to Real with Rhapsody.
Because DeWolfe doesn't see iTunes and MySpace Music as competitors, he believes his service actually contributes to iPod sales. "If anything, we'll be accretive to iPod sales unless we develop a device." Reuters quoted DeWolfe as saying. [BetaNews] Lionsgate, MySpace team for marketing Posted by MySpace2Max Wednesday, 2008-November-19 Lionsgate has struck a marketing partnership with MySpace that will promote the studio's holiday-season movies with the social network's new Profile 2.0 initiative.
MySpace users can choose branded skins from "The Spirit," "Transporter 3," starring Jason Statham, and "The Punisher: War Zone" in this week's rollout of Profile 2.0, which allows the site's subscribers to upgrade their profile pages in a new, customizable style. Users who opt for the branded skin "themes" featuring the films essentially turn their profile pages into billboards for the movies. Using the skins also leads to a sweepstakes component. While Lionsgate is the launch partner for Profile 2.0, dozens of other brands will be offered in the coming weeks, including celebrity-driven ones for the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Kim Kardashian. The companies declined to specify financial details of Lionsgate's sponsorship package. The studio has collaborated with MySpace on previous marketing partnerships. |
